Summary
Add a SummaryThis movie has quite a few gaping plot holes. It is about two ex-crusaders who are excommunicated for desertion. They are to be executed for their desertion and are given a choice: Transport a harmless looking accused witch or face execution. They of course choose the witch. The store moves along, stuff happens... It makes one question: is she a witch? is she not a witch? At the end of the day, they are taking her somewhere to get a book that can be used to destroy her. Most people with common sense would just send one person on a horse for the book, but not these guys. All in all makes for an "it was okay" but I wouldn't watch it again movie.

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. B+ DVD
Predictable & cliched.
I enjoyed this movie. Very entertaining. Nicolas Cage & Ron Perlman seemed to have a good rapport. I think a better title would've been: "Ghost Rider & Hellboy vs. Black Plague & The Medieval Witch/Demon" though... sounds more menacing & dramatic... :)
I don't hate it, but blah is all there is. Looks & feels like a straight-to-DVD shoot. Just a paycheck for Cage.
I enjoyed it ! But then again I'm engaged and etertained by almost any "Swords and.." film , so long as the history feels possibly right and production values are good. This picture delivers for me. (Though its true that the visual darkness makes set dressing easier.) "Kev's PICkS":Try seeing this film at the same time as Sean Bean's "Black Death". I'd like to hear how you compare them?
not bad one of moives u have to watch to understand. i loved it alot my kids even liked it and that is saying much. over the age of 13 should watch it. or older the movie was very interesting.
This was a stinker! I like Nick Cage and Ron Pearlman, but this was a waste of my time. The best part of the film was the cinematography - they did a great job with dark, creepy and disgusting. There were some decent sections, like the scene where the 3 women are killed as witches but it wasn't enough to redeem the rest of the film. Terrible war montage, terrible plot and wooden performances.
Better than I expected. Nicholas Cage has been rather dull in recent years but without him here this movie falls into the $5 bin at Wal-Mart. Ron Pearlman gives a 1 dimensional performance and the rest of the supporting cast is so-so. Still, the movies' story is interesting and does a lot to redeem the film in my eyes. Although, I couldn't help feeling that the film makers couldn't decide what type of movie they wanted to make. There are aspects of horror, thriller, action, and fantasy all rolled into a package that doesn't seem to fit perfectly into the box. Was it worth seeing? Yes.
Good - Extremely dark film that gets better as the minutes tick. The film is never dull and the story moves along quite well to its climax. Nicholas Cage plays the lead that is charged with transporting a potential witch to judgment.
